Partnering in India

India has the most unreached people groups of any country in the world. According to Operation World, 88 percent of the population in India is unreached. With 2,533 people groups, cross-cultural missions happen within its borders. Workers don’t need to leave India to experience culture shock, language barriers, and cultural faux pas.

India Missions Association (IMA)

Recently, One Challenge (OC) worker Warren had the opportunity to establish deeper ties with the India Missions Association (IMA). Because of the IMA’s 30-plus years of history and the growth of the church in most of India, it is the world’s largest association of mission organizations. Over 200 mission agencies of every size have become members of the IMA. “In the 1980s and 90s, the IMA had a rich time of developing many resources (mission books, CDs, audio, prayer booklets, etc.), but in more recent years the publishing of materials, and particularly research about the changing face of India missions, has been minimal,” Warren says.

Research Development

Warren’s trip was focused on the continued development of a collaborative India Research Network. “I also had an opportunity to sit with several IMA leaders and discuss leadership change, a vision for cooperative mission research and the future of mission structures in India,” he says.

In many ways the IMA leadership stands at the heart of considerable change in the church in India and mission. “There are several urgent needs within the IMA that I believe good research and investigation can assist,” Warren says.

Pray with One Challenge

    India

  • Please pray with the IMA General Secretary and Warren as they explore what research initiatives are strategic for the IMA.
  • Praise God for Indian researchers from the following cities: Bangalore, Chennai, Cuttack, Pune, Dehra Dun, Hyderabad, Delhi, Shillong, and Patna.
  • Please pray that an uncommon unity among these men and women will continue at the June meetings of this newly forming India Research Network.
