Care for Workers: Eastern Europe

One Challenge loves to talk about caring for mission workers. Indeed, it’s one of the organization’s strengths. Why? Because well cared for individuals become greater vessels for His Kingdom. Also, mission workers are human. They all need rest and a safe place to share their stories.

Seventy Romanians, including children, joined One Challenge workers Mihai and Tammy at the annual “Rest and Renewal” camp. Both Mihai and Tammy are an integral part of the planning and leading, to care for workers in eastern Europe.

Care for Workers

“It is a week in which we listen to the stories of the Romanian mission workers. Share tears, laugh, hug, sing, and pray for one another,” Mihai says.

“For many of these Romanian workers, this camp is their first opportunity to really share the hard and difficult stories in a safe and supportive setting. They’re surrounded by their peers who understand that the life of a Christian worker is not easy.”

Care for WorkersThe overwhelming response from the participants was that this retreat was sorely needed. One participant said: “You have NOOO idea how much we needed this! Thank you so much for being a blessing!”

Caring for Kids & Young Adults

We believe in One Challenge that missions impacts a whole family. At the Romanian camp, the kids of mission workers are not neglected.

“While the adults spend time in Bible study, worship, and small groups, the children go through a similar program. It runs parallel to the adult program, but is tailored to both children and adolescents,” Tammy says.

Both Mihai and Tammy look forward to pouring into the lives of these precious Romanians who serve for His glory worldwide.

“This week is always one of the highlights of our summer,” Mihai says. “It is such a blessing to be able to come alongside Romanians who have dedicated their lives to serving God’s kingdom.”

Pray with One Challenge

Care for Workers

  • Pray for Christian workers in Romania to learn to value the concepts of self-care and why a healthy ministry and personal-life balance is essential.
  • Pray for Mihai and Tammy as they do on-going debriefing and mentoring of many of the participants at the camp.
  • Pray for the Romanian National Member Care Team’s effort to lead several seminars this fall in major Romanian churches. They want to demonstrate what it looks like for a local church to do member care well!
  • Pray for Romanian Christian workers who serve in very difficult places and face persecution, that they would find comfort in the arms of Christ.
