When organizations, churches, and believers work together for the kingdom, God works in amazing ways.

Recently, OC workers Alex and Kristi worked at Universaide, a biennial Olympic-type event for university students. This world-recognized event gives the Taiwanese people/government the opportunity to show the world that, in spite of its small size and lack of diplomatic recognition, both in politics and athletics, Taiwan is well-developed and organized. It was an important event for the nation, but it proved to be important for kingdom collaboration as well.

Universiade Outreach, Sports in Taiwan

“Our Universiade Outreach was truly a testimony of God’s power to orchestrate and empower a small team to carry out this whole project,” Alex says.

Sports in TaiwanAlex served as the overall coordinator of the Outreach, and worked to bring churches, parachurch organizations, individuals, and communities together to develop and carry out a strategy of evangelism, partnership, and community involvement.

“The goal was to show that through partnership and cooperation, Outreach efforts will be magnified,” Alex says. More than 3,000 people visited the park and participated in the programs.

Kids Games

“One highlight was the Kids Games program, which served 165 kids – they heard the gospel message and learned so much that the parents were thanking us for the changes they saw in five short days,” Alex says.

One group leader shared that on the last day, six kids made a decision to receive Jesus as their personal Savior. Many others shared similar testimonies.

Hospitality Tent

Kristi served at the hospitality tent, where 2,000 people visited to either receive a Bible, sports tract, or magazine. “The most fun part was presenting the gospel through the “DIY” five-colored beads. We were overwhelmed with the results of what God has done throughout the Universiade Outreach, especially with only three months to pull it all together!” Kristi says.

200 volunteers from churches, organizations, and individuals made this Universiade Outreach possible.

Pray with One Challenge

  • Pray the idea of the possibilities of ministry through sports in Taiwan will take root in the churches, organizations, and individuals Alex and Kristi worked with, and that would result in new efforts/programs utilizing sports and recreation for outreach.
  • Ask the Lord to nurture the seeds of the Gospel that were shared with over 3,000 people to bear much fruit!
