One Challenge asked Murray to share a little about himself, his ministry, and the vision he has for the future.

One Challenge: What’s your history with One Challenge?

Murray:

Church Planting Canada

I joined OC Canada in 1975. For 10 years my focus was the development of a DAWN-type process in Canada, which continues today as Church Planting Canada under the leadership of Graham Singh. In 2005 I accepted the challenge of Greg Gripentrog and Ron Pritz to serve as OC Europe Area Director.

During this season also I developed an interagency partnership to assist those turning to Christ from Islam to prepare for leadership roles. During this season, first steps were taken towards the development of the Global Church Planting Network (GCPN).

One Challenge: Why are you committed to be on the One Challenge Board?

Murray:

I believe OC is a great mission. A strong mission like OC needs to be protected by a strong board. I believe our OC Board is such a team. The Board works hard to ensure wise financial, legal, leadership and other risk mitigation decisions are made under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In this way I want to help, by the grace of God, OC have a long, effective, and strategic ministry impacting the nations with the very Risen Christ.

One Challenge: What does your role of “board chair” entail?

Murray:

Overall, the chair role seeks to take in the big picture and ensure the Board is serving the mission as it is called to and desires to do to the best of its ability. This involves monitoring the work of Board committees, trying to ask the right questions, looking as far as possible into the future, and ensuring the Board does not stray inappropriately from monitoring mission outcomes into the work of OC management and staff.

One Challenge: What are you looking forward to during your term?

Murray:

In addition to helping the Board be the best it can be, I look forward to deepening the sense of community within the Board, the Board’s excitement about the mission of OC and love for the Lord who is our joy, our purpose and unspeakably magnificent destiny.

One Challenge: What is your personal ministry like?

Murray:

Currently I serve several roles within GCPN, the primary of which encourages national church planting processes and disciple-making movements within each national process. Locally I seek to link the power of prayer with the unity of the city-church in www.prayridgemeadows.com for the impact of the gospel on those who don’t know Christ.

One Challenge: What’s one thing people should know about you?

Murray:

I like to see the big picture and to make things which don’t work as well as they might, work better. I’m an idealist with a pragmatic bent. Without the wisdom, perspective and encouragement of (my wife) Carol, 44 amazing years and counting, I wouldn’t be half the person I seek to be.

One Challenge: How can people pray for the OC board?

Murray:

Please pray that the Board keeps its eyes on the Lord and on the ball. Only the Lord can keep our hearts right, our minds on that which pleases the Lord, and our eyes on the ball as we seek the advance the missio dei and the goal of discipling the nations before He comes.
