What Battles are You Fighting?

spiritual formation

Castles and fortresses light up my imagination. They were built not as a palace for luxury or pleasure, but as a protection from imminent danger. The enemy could be right on the other side of the wall or gate, but the people are safe inside. In times of war, Kings and Queens, as the treasures of the kingdom, would often stay closed in the castle until it was safe to go out.  And, the soldiers would sleep in the castle, where it was safe, and then go out and fight during the day.  The LORD invites us to find our refuge in Him. The psalmist writes,

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 18:2

What Battles are You Fighting?

  • What images come to mind as you read the words of the psalmist: my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my shield, my salvation, my stronghold…?
  • How would you respond to a strong hug from the Lord? Why not try it using your imagination?
  • What would it be like for you to “take refuge” in the Lord?
