Barriers to the gospel can break down on the basketball court. Recently, OC worker Alex partnered with a local Taiwanese church to reach youth through a basketball camp.
“On the third day, the pastor made an altar call and half of the kids raised their hands. Praise God!” Alex says.
Now Alex is partnering with the church to disciple these young people and help them grow in their new faith. However, participation in church activates are not possible for many, whether due to distance from the church or parental mandate.
“Some of the parents will limit their participation if it is a church service, but they don’t mind sending their kids if it is related to sports,” Alex says.
To help these kids still grow, Alex helped the church start a weekly basketball program held on Sunday afternoons. There are two divisions: one for college to professional age, and the other for youth.
“We are hoping to use this to follow up and make disciples,” Alex says. “Pray that those who come will be willing to hear and grow in God’s Word.”
Pray with One Challenge
- Pray for Alex and the church leadership as they pour into the lives of the young people who come to the weekly basketball camp.
- Pray for open hearts of these people and that they would be receptive to the gospel.
- Pray for the discipleship of the young children who accepted Christ at the basketball camp. Pray they would grow in their faith.
- Pray for Alex as he seeks more ways to engage people in the gospel through sports.
