Each episode in the series will include a reading of the Bible passage, about 3 short concept videos (like mini lessons from the Bible passage), and a prayer exercise focusing on a Psalm that you can use as a “listening practice”.
Episode 2: Listening to God’s Invitation
In Episode 2 in our Listening to God series, we will explore God’s invitation to Moses in Exodus 3 and God’s invitation to Mary, the mother of Jesus, in Luke 1. These two protagonists couldn’t be more different, but God invites them to participate in events that changed the course of history. As we look deeper into their stories, we’ll discover how God’s invitations to serve are actually invitations to know God in a more personal way.
Teaching Concept 1 – Recognizing God’s voice as he calls us by name
God called both Moses and Mary by name as he invited them into a deeper relationship with him. Listening to God’s invitation starts with God getting our attention. How do we respond to God’s call?
Teaching Concept 2 – Resistance is not refusal/Asking questions
When God invited Moses and Mary to serve in God’s plan of redemption, both of them had questions. God was ready for their questions and welcomed them into his work in the world. Spoiler alert: Fun with resistance bands!
Teaching Concept 3 – Accepting God’s invitation/Indifference is the goal
Bonus question: What does Mary, the mother of Jesus, have in common with her first-born Son?
Or, for Jeopardy fans: Both Mary and Jesus respond this way when God invites them to do something beyond their strength.
